Some servers I know will also ring in well done steaks as medium well to avoid getting a comp on one of their checks since some people mistakenly believe a well done steak will come out with a little bit of pink. That's why some guests who truly want a well done steak have to tell the kitchen to burn it in order to get it cooked the way they like.I hope this helps people get the steaks they truly want when they go out to eat.

This is why I tend to not eat out and just either go to simple diners for takeout or just cook food myself at home. I would be incredibly pissed off if I went to a restaurant and someone told me they were refusing to make my food the way I wanted it cooked. As long as the customer isn't asking for something that's either REALLY far out there or it would definitely cause the customer illness, why on earth would the chef care how the customer wants the food? It's so obnoxious on their part.
