6-year-old boy drowns on Carnival cruise ship
A 6-year-old Central Florida boy drowned on a Carnival cruise ship Sunday afternoon, according to Miami Dade Police.
Detectives say the child was in the pool with his brother when the drowning occurred. Passengers immediately pulled the boy from the water and initiated resuscitative efforts. They were not successful, and the boy died.
The family was on a four-day Caribbean cruise out of Miami.
Carnival Cruise Lines released this statement, "Yesterday, Oct. 13, on board the Carnival Victory, while the ship was at sea on the last leg of a four-day Caribbean cruise, a six-year-old boy drowned in the mid ship pool. He was at the pool area with other family members at the time. Carnival extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family during this very difficult time. The company’s Care Team is providing assistance and support."
Police say at this time, the incident appears to be accidental and no foul play is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
