We have lived here for a few years now & I am slowly beginning to make the house more of a home to us. We did the bedrooms already & the upstairs living. The past 2 weeks I have been focusing on the basement because it had the UGLIEST wallpaper. Soooo very dated! Anyway, When I took the paper down over the sink in the bar-- it was completely covered in old mold & water damage (note this is an outside wall) We chalked it up to old water issues with the upstairs sink. Now I am working on the last little part where our TV/entertainment center is (2 of the walls are outside walls).. FREAKIN' covered top to bottom in mold spots. It was so bad in the corner that it took down the plaster tape in the corner.
I did a little research & it's been suggested that if you have a wood burning stove (like we do & we use ours has a primary source of heat in the winter) that you shouldn't wallpaper the area (let alone use thick ass ugly wallpaper.. lol) I just feel like every time we turn around we are fixing things that normal/smart people wouldn't do when building a house. I mean the list we have right now is a mile long (most are minor) and I worry what else I am going to find. FML.
*end rant*
