Store clerks who stare you down

Posts: 20327 08/01/2012 3:28 PM	Like you're trying to steal...I don't know whether to laugh or be offended. There's a store like that near my house, and I usually avoid it. But today I needed something from that store and went in, and yes, I was stared down like a criminal. I think I'll go back to taking my business elsewhere. If you've ever experienced this before, how do you handle it?

Posts: 26205 08/01/2012 3:32 PM	My husband and I bought a trash can at Wal-Mart the other day. It was too big to put on the counter so she had me hold it up so she could scan it. After she scanned it she hesitated for a second and then said "wait a minute, tilt the trash can so I can see inside." I guess she was afraid I had something in the trash can I was trying to sneak out. I was a little offended at first but then I figured she was just doing her job. I just laughed it off when we were leaving the store.

I had a store clerk call security on me at Sears because I was in the purse section looking inside of a purse ... to see what it looked like on the inside. She kept staring me down and asking if she could help me as if what I was doing was so strange. By the time I was ready to leave a whole gang of men were standing at the exit waiting to barricade me in and said they were tipped off that I had been stealing purses, and tried to grab the one I had on my arm (mine). That happened probably 10 years ago and I've never shopped at Sears again. Also one time I was browsing the hair care crap at Ulta and every where I went an SA was leering at me from around the corner and would just smile once we made eye contact, but she'd never stop starring at me. That was annoying.

Posts: 2217 08/01/2012 3:53 PM	I've had that happen on occasion and I always go up to the store clerk and ask them if I can help them since they seem so bored. I'm actually a store manager of a clothing store so I have no qualms about addressing a "suspicious" store clerk.

Posts: 5403 08/01/2012 3:55 PM	I hate it but after working retail we would have a meeting every morning and be told to watch people. They would even pass a picture around of people to look out for who stole from other stores. Sometimes my manager would tell me to follow people she considered suspicious, usually a group of blacks even though we are black. It was just sad.

Posts: 3818 08/01/2012 4:02 PM	I HATE to go into Beauty Brands, even though they send me coupons and is convenient because the sales girls are always up my ass because no one is ever in there. I JUST WANT TO WALK AROUND THE STORE AND LOOK.

Yep they do it at target all the time. trashcans,shoe boxes,purses. Pretty much anything you put stuff in.
