Nancy, no one is "attacking" you, but you seem to have little to no experience with multiple cats/pets. Cats are social/pack creatures. They enjoy the company of others like themselves. They also do well individually, but breaking up a pair or group that have been together for YEARS is the equivalent of breaking up a family of children. Honestly. They will be traumatized. And, as others have said, that is in addition to having to change homes already. The cat in question's personality will change COMPLETELY once his sibling is removed from his life. He will likely begin to act out, urinate and defecate outside of the box, become aggressive and destructive, etc. But even if he doesn't do the above, he will never be the "same" cat again.

If the owner has had them on Craigslist for two months already, it doesn't sound to me like she has one foot out the door, on the way to the shelter. She is probably grateful that someone is showing interest at all, but really, these cats need to go to a home together. And, as others have pointed out, there are literally tons of adult cats in shelters that need homes because everyone wants kittens!

But it sounds, based on your posts, that you're trying to go the inexpensive route by adopting off Craigslist instead of a shelter, where the charge a fee. I don't fault you for that, but you should keep looking for a cat who is accustomed to being alone, as opposed to splitting up this cat "family". It's the owner's responsibility to find a home for BOTH her cats, together, not yours (unless you're willing to take them both). Please reconsider. And stop thinking everyone is jumping all over you for wanting to adopt an adult cat. That's not the issue, at all, and I don't get how you don't understand that.
