Screen Gems has cast Justin Timberlake and Jamie Foxx in THE BLACK PHANTOM, a spec the studio picked up from writers Megan Hinds and Dave Lease.
The film follows a Caucasian hitman (Timberlake) who finds himself being hunted down by the best professional killer in the business, the Black Phantom (Foxx). He manages to turn the tables and holds the Phantom’s family hostage, forcing the Phantom to help kill the mob bosses that took out the contract. Idris Elba and Eddie Murphy were previously mentioned for the cast.
Rob Hardy and William Packer are producing.
Timberlake, who has racked up numerous Grammys from his solo pop albums, “Justified” and “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” has recently become a bonafide Hollywood star, appearing in action flicks like “In Time,” as well as the critically acclaimed drama “The Social Network.” The actor/singer has also starred in numerous romantic comedies, such as “Friends with Benefits” and “Bad Teacher.” He is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment.
Oscar winner Foxx was last seen in “Horrible Bosses” opposite Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, and Colin Farrell. The “Ray” and “Collateral” star will next be seen as the titular character in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” where he plays a vengeful freed slave under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter, played by Christoph Waltz. He is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment.
