He was in a movie I watched tonight, albeit a supporting role! (Yeah, got sidetracked from Some Like It Hot.) It was The Last Command, which is in the history books as one of two films Emil Jannings won the first Best Actor Oscar for. (The other, The Way Of All Flesh, is a lost film and is the only lost film to contain an Academy Award-winning performance. Two other nominated Best Actor performances are lost - The Patriot, for which Lewis Stone was nominated, and The Rogue Song, for which Lawrence Tibbet was nominated. No Best Actress winning or nominated performance is lost, although Sadie Thompson is incomplete and has been restored with stills and The Letter with Jeanne Eagels is only available as a workprint missing most of the music and foley effects.)

I forgot how ridiculously hansome Tony Curtis is. He and Marilyn were so hilariously charming together. But even more, I love Jack Lemmon in this. His scenes with Joe E. Brown were just pure comedy. The tango scene will never not be funny to me.

I read on IMDB that Jerry Lewis was originally offered the role and turned it down because he didn't want to dress in drag. After Jack got an oscar nomination for the role he sent Jerry chocolates. Also they had a woman try to teach Jack and Tony how to walk in heels. Jack said that he didn't want to walk like a woman in heels. He wanted to walk like a man trying to walk like a woman.

It was very funny. Start thinking about what the next film will be. Since Joey chose this film maybe Jlo can pick the next one.
