Teacher At P.S. 208 Arrested For Alleged Sex Abuse Of An 8-Year-OldNEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A teacher at P.S. 208 on West 111th Street has been arrested, charged with sexually abusing an 8-year-old student.
Rafael Sosa, 29, allegedly had relations with the student on several occasions. He allegedly kissed her and touched her inappropriately at or near the school.
Sosa, who lives in Yonkers, is charged with acting in a manner to endanger a child younger than 17. He will be arraigned later this evening.
He was removed from the classroom following his arrest.
The Department of Education says Sosa was appointed an elementary school teacher in September 2007 and worked at P.S. 90 in the Bronx. He began at P.S. 208 in Manhattan in September 2009. There were no prior investigations.
Sosa’s arrest is the latest in a string of sex-related arrests of Department of Education employees. Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently rolled out new legislation designed to get teachers brought up on sexual misconduct charges out of classrooms. More than a dozen are still in the classroom.
