I love Amazon Instant Video and Netflix, but you can't purchase episodes of HBO/Showtime/other premium cable programs until the seasons are released on DVD. So for example, now that True Blood season 4 is out on disc, I could purchase it through Amazon Instant Video. However, I won't have access to season 5 until this time next summer. I would love for HBO/Showtime to offer a subscription streaming service, but that would render the cable/satellite companies useless and goodness knows we can't have that!
