It has been five months since a 20-year-old Marietta girl was found dead on Interstate 77 near Williamstown, but the girl's family is still waiting for police to determine if the loss was an accident or murder.
The Nov. 19 death of Jaleayah Davis has been ruled suspicious, but that's about all officers will say about the investigation.
"It's like time has stopped for us," said Jaleayah's mother, Kim Davis, 46, of Marietta. "I can't believe it is April, because it feels like this happened yesterday."
Davis expressed frustration that she has been unable to get more information about her daughter's case from Wood County Sheriff's Office, the agency heading up the investigation.
"I can't even get simple answers to simple questions," she said.
Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy said he understands Davis' frustration, but said officers are doing everything they can to preserve the investigation as state crime labs continue to process evidence.
"We cannot say if this was an accident or a crime until we get those results back," Sandy said. "I believe any parent that loses a child like this would want a quality job of investigating and a good understanding of what happened. That's what we're attempting to put together."
Sandy said West Virginia State Police are processing evidence collected in the case. There is no timeline on when those test results might be completed.
"We sent items to the lab on another matter on July 11, 2011 and we just got those lab results back on Monday (April 2)," Sandy said. "They do a quality job, but they are just overworked."
Sometime early Nov. 19, Jaleayah Davis' body was found on Interstate 77 with multiple traumatic injuries. She had been struck by at least one vehicle. Her damaged vehicle was located about two-tenths of a mile away against a guardrail.
Davis said although police have been tight-lipped about the case, she has obtained information indicating the death of her daughter was no accident.
"Every time the phone rings I hold my breath and wonder for a moment if they're calling to say they've arrested someone," Davis said. "I don't believe this was an accident and I'm not going to settle for anyone telling me it was. My goal is for the people involved in anything that resulted in her death to be punished … I'm willing to wait for police to do whatever investigating they need to do because I want a rock solid case."
Kim Davis said on the night of Jaleayah's death she was supposed to spend the night with a friend. Davis said she has not been able to make contact with anyone who may have been with her daughter on the night of her death.
"This was someone she recently met, but I've heard there were other people there that she had never been around before," Davis said.
Sometime early Nov. 19, Jaleayah made a series of phone calls to her 18-year-old sister.
"She was crying and really upset and we have no idea why," Davis said. "They agreed to meet in Williamstown to talk."
But Jaleayah Davis never made it to Williamstown.
Around 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 19, Kim Davis said she got a panicked phone call from her youngest daughter indicating Jaleayah was dead.
"I knew in my heart it was true, but you don't want to believe it," Davis said.
Anyone with any information on the case is asked to contact the Wood County Sheriff's Office at 304-424-1834

The Kia Optima driven by Jaleayah Davis, who died under “suspicious” circumstances along Interstate 77, has been returned to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.
The car was found along a guardrail on I-77 heading north. Davis' body was located two-tenths of mile from the car.
The vehicle shows heavy damage along the passenger side and is covered with fingerprint dust. Blood stains are visible on the passenger side trunk lid and rear tail lights.
The window on the passenger side door of the vehicle is smashed. The hole is covered in plastic, wrapped around tape labeled "evidence."
There is a large brown box in the back seat also sealed and marked as evidence.
FaceBook POST by her mom ![]()
I want everyone to look at Jaleayah's face, her pictures. Look at her beautiful face. That perfect smile, her perfect white teeth that so many people complimented her on. She had such smooth skin, I always told her it was golden, it glowed. She had the most perfect beautiful body. Loving eyes. For everyone who knew Jaleayah, anyone who may have information about that night, and anyone involved, I want you to know how I had to say goodbye to this beautiful baby. I could not see her. My daughter had to be cremated. Her body was in a box, a box she was to be sent away in to be cremated. She was covered with a blanket. I had to touch her cold body with a blanket on it. THERE WAS NOT ONE SINGLE PART OF HER BODY that the funeral home could show me. NOT ONE SINGLE PART OF HER BODY that I could see and touch or kiss. I had to give my daughter a last kiss goodbye through a blanket. I will only have memories of what the touch of her skin was like. I could not hold her hand or run my fingers through her hair. NOT ONE SINGLE PART OF HER BODY. What mother, sister, or grandparents should ever have to say goodbye like that? If you have any information, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, tell the police. The sheriff department has left an e-mail address on their FB page. Send them information. Please.

her talks about her alleged killer
her case is still open, but there is one girl who is in suspicion. this is what her sister Taubi has to say about it.
“First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for your help and support with Jaleayah’s case. I have said many times since this has happened, it’s SO touching how many people want to help and are getting involved. Whether it be friends, people who went to school or work with Jaleayah, even strangers. It is truly amazing and you all have amazing souls. Something else I would like to state as I did on my Twitter earlier, one of the people being suspected of that night has a keychain of Jaleayah’s that I had bought for Jaleayah that she had on her key ring before she had left that evening. The person who has this, she (should be all the clue as to who I’m referring to) has it on her wristlet carrying it around flaunting it to people. Once I had said something on Twitter about it, people were messeging me left and right saying how they have seen it. One source said she told her Jaleayah gave it to her, and another source had said she told them Jaleayah left it at her house. Lying, constantly lying, and this shit will catch up with her. She’ll get so caught up in her lies that she tells on herself. Tonight the subject was brought up on Twitter, another person suspected from that night had made a new Twitter once their name was brought up, and another made their Twitter private so no one can read their tweets. Why would they all be doing this if they didn’t know something or do something? They all think that they’re safe but as time goes on, people aren’t forgetting and I think THEY’RE forgetting that. People are only getting more angry and trying to solve the case THAT MUCH MORE as times passes. And if any of you have heard that they’re “cleared”, they’re not. The case isn’t even done yet no one is cleared. They’re all morons who obviously don’t know how the legal system works. I will ask again for everyone to keep their eyes and ears open because these peoples ‘friends’ are starting to talk.
Okay, I’m just gonna put it like this… KRISTIN, whenever your std filled boyfriend sees this and tells you what I posted, give me that fucking keychain back or I’ll be forced to get it myself. You sick dirty bitch, how messed up are you in the head? And before you decide to pitch it to make it look like you dont’t have it, people you thought were cool with you snapped some pics for me of you holding it. And now you’re probably squirming in your shoes wondering what these people told me. HA. Well to let everyone know Kristin had made up a story that night that someone she told had told me, and it’s completely false. Why make up a story if you didn’t do or don’t know anything? So you can turn it into the cops for stealing it from Jaleayah or while I’m having a nice lunch at Applebee’s I’ll just get the thing back myself. Jaleayah left with it, someone murdered her and you ironically end up with it? To anyone who had a thought that she was completely innocent, I bet this makes you wonder..”
