Posts: 9840 06/01/2012 9:28 AM	When my cousin was 16 (11 years ago) she flew to Canada to spend a week at a guy's house who she was "dating" online. Her mom allowed it and paid for the ticket. It turned out okay (aka he didn't murder her) but can you imagine, getting off a plane in another country where a complete stranger is waiting for you to take you to his house? That is completely terrifying to me. Sounds like a terrible idea. All kinds of creeps hang out online with fake identities. I'm not saying don't ever meet people you talk to online, I've probably met 30+ jjb'ers. Just be safe about it.

She didn't even want/allow me to date or go out, let alone meet some stranger in another country.

Posts: 678 06/01/2012 11:02 AM	my cousin did something similar. different countries ( he was in america/she in europe). i went with her to meet him and we stayed in his house (they sleeping in the same bed for 2 weeks). they were together for 11 years, till he died of cancer last year.

Posts: 2048 06/01/2012 12:58 PM	i don't know, you never know what a person does after you're done interacting with them, even in person. you just have to try to be the best judge of character you can. only you know what you're comfortable with. i take it that on skype you've seen his place, you know what he does for a living, etc. almost every day for two years seems like a long time to keep up a facade. did he offer to come to you? i assume you're meeting in michigan because the cottage will be a nice vacation-y setting to spend time together in? is it really isolated?

He wouldn't let her leave for an entire weekend and she had to escape when he fell asleep. This was about 10 years ago. Very stupid idea, especially with all the crazy going on lately.
