Asking directly doesn't have to be an attack, at all. It's much easier said than done but I think the only thing to do is just work up the courage and ask. In these situations we naturally fill our heads with worst case scenarios and that can psyche you out of doing it, but even if it's bad it's better to know than to torture yourself with the possibilities.

We can speculate about what might have pissed her off all day long - hell, I have done that for years after an ex- friend suddenly went MIA and never came back into contact - but the only way to find out apart from asking yourself is to attempt to have somebody else wheedle it out of her on your behalf. Which is rarely a good plan since it's liable to inflame the situation further if she works out that's what's happening.

This sound EXACTLY like what I went through my last semester of basic sciences in med school. I had met this girl when I first got there and we immediately because really close. In essences she was my best friend because we were away from home and our school was really small. We studied together, lived together, did everything together. Then our med 4 semester she started doing exactly what your friend is doing.

I confronted her and I asked her if I did something wrong and she just still acted so weird. I ended up moving out of the house I lived in with her and another girl because it got so weird.

Turns out she was really pissed that I was spending so much time with my boyfriend. The semester before we had both started dating these guys. She started dating her bf a few weeks before I started dating mine. She would be gone from the house for weeks at a time because she would stay with him, but my bf and I would always be calling them to hang out - in the end she would end up blowing us off or come up with some excuse not to hang out with us very long. Whatever. At the end of med 3 her boyfriend transferred to a different school. My bf and I would still ask her to hang out and I would constantly be asking her to go to lunch with me or hang out with just me but she would blow me off. I eventually got fed up with it, especially when I confronted her and she just said something to the same effect of "I'm really stressed, blah blah". Then she just got uber shady and I got over it.

The best you can do is to do whatever everyone else said and confront her with "what the hell?". If she still continues to be like this, just cut your losses and move on. There are weird people in med school, man. A lot of them are so competitive and will do anything to do better than other people. I met some pretty vindictive people and I really wish I wouldn't have been so trusting and nice to all of them.
