Posts: 28090 05/11/2012 7:38 PM Mentalist Melts at 32°F	Surgery went without a hitch but boy it was painful as fuck post-op. Hardly slept last night and I'm constipated (URGH!) That's one of the things that sucks about surgery: how one's GI tract gets all out of whack. Anyway, I'm OK, just sore. Think I''ll eat a curry w/ coconut milk to try and help my GI along. If you have any other "easy" suggestions for constipation I'm all eyes. The meds at the hospital didn't do squat (pardon the pun). I have to say it was sweet watching my husband put together a flower arrangements out some tulips he bought. I was really dopey but even I could appreciate that. It's difficult to focus on text so I'll quite for now. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm so glad it's done with, though I am sorry you are so uncomfortable. That's really sweet that your husband did the flowers for you. Aw! I don't have much in the way of helpful advice, but good for you, I am glad you are back home now. Make sure you take it easy, and let other people do things for you.

Posts: 20869 05/11/2012 8:09 PM	an iron supplement would usually make constipation worse... did I miss something? I had the same problem with constipation after my UAE. The doctor had prescribed colace, but I didn't take it since I already took an OTC stool softener because of my iron pills. Big mistake. I ended up calling my doctor, who recommended prunes.

Posts: 2647 05/11/2012 8:42 PM	Dulcolax will help with the constipation. I had to be on it after my back surgery. Good luck on the recovery! First and second days are usually the worst...once they're done you'll be good to go!

Posts: 28090 05/11/2012 10:34 PM Mentalist Melts at 32°F	Thanks everyone. I'm eating Thai food w/ a lot of coconut milk, hoping that might help things along. We shall see. I will also do a magnesium soak. stares at JulieAnne, covers here ears and starts to hum :giggles I can't be real active yet. The access point for the surgery was the femoral artery in my abdomen. Gotta take it easy until it is healed up well. Gotta rely on meds and supplements to get the GI going. Thanks for all the suggestions, truly. If what I am doing doesn't work I'll pick something up tomorrow to try and move things along.

Posts: 28090 05/15/2012 2:39 AM Mentalist Melts at 32°F	Had to converse with three docs to find something that remotely works. Thank you for the suggestions. These aer all baby steps to recovery. Not pushing myself and my guys are helping me when I ask them. Pain is in waves and I am off of narcotics until other issues are manageable.

Posts: 31257 05/15/2012 3:00 AM i am the lizard queen	A couple of years ago, I went into the ER, thought I was dying and they told me all my pain and issues were probably because of constipation and my bowels not emptying. They found a blockage in the x-ray. They gave me pain pills and told me to get Miralax to help clear everything out and it worked really nicely. Cleaned me out and I know sometimes with constipation, it can hurt when you actually go because of how bulky the waste is, but the Miralax helped, well, I don't know, thin it out. Feeling shitty (pun intended ) sucks, I know. Hope you feel better and have a speedy recovery.
