I'm so happy to hear a president speak openly and publicly to issues for all people to be created equal and feel like human beings despite race, preference and beliefs. We are all human beings despite our difference in beliefs and should not feel isolated if we find someone we love that society feels is wrong. One of my childhood friends was so afraid to come out and when he had the courage to do so. Some assholes met him out at a club and took him with them after drinking. Beat him, shot him then set his body on fire. His body was found in Riverside burned to a crisp. Since he was last seen leaving with a couple guys, someone found his body in some fields in Riverside county after they were scouting for a place to shoot a movie. I was crushed. Even when we were little kids we didn't really understand the term being gay, but we both would dress in the same colors and dance to Spice Girls music pretending we were Spice girls. To this day I don't feel his justice was served since the assholes who killed him claim he made a pass on them and they did not know he was gay. They claim to be drunk and not responsible for burning his body. I still am hurt over this as well as watching his mother fight to bring justice for his death. He was only 18 years old and I know he was looking for someone to love and how he struggled to be accepted by everyone and not mocked because of his beliefs. I remember fighting boys who would tease him because i was a tomboy and learned to fight like a boy from growing up with brothers. I fought for him, but blamed myself for years that I was not there to protect him from these assholes who killed him because he was gay who decided to come out to the public instead of spending years of feeling as if something was wrong with him because of his preference. His mother who was a registered nurse finally accepted him and his older brother who was serving over seas at the time of his death. So this would make him proud to know a president of the united states speaking out and voicing his opinion of equality for all. Many people have felt this way, and some of his writings from earlier in his career provide evidence that this is the case.I don't think he did this for the votes. This is going to make his fight in many battleground states that much harder. I think he did this because he believes it and it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the issue given the conversation this week. And considering 1 in 6 of his bundlers is gay, I'm sure it was getting increasingly difficult to avoid the topic.

He has slowly opened up to the ride side of progress with this crap, and while yeah, it might be all done now to help him, but regardless, I think this might be how he truly feels and it's nice to finally here a President, especially an ACTIVE President say this publicly.
