I know it may feel hopeless, but we still have a shot if enough people get out and vote and even if we can just keep it close it will make a statement. Amendment 1 is on the North Carolina ballot and will make it part of our constitution that marriage between one man and one woman is the only legally recognized union in the state. It has serious implications for not only gay couples, but even for straight couples who are unmarried.

Posts: 13946 05/08/2012 2:25 PM	The news is staying turnout has been slow and steady today so if you go vote there shouldn't be a huge line. Please vote!!!! Low conservative turnout could really play in our favor if everyone who is against the amendment rallies to the polls.

My thoughts on that is theres no way in hell I will let all the other people 'speak' for me for something like that. My vote may not make a difference but at least I am making my claim about what I think is right and wrong

It's so ironic that my voting poll was IN a church I love living in NC, not necessarily the city I live in bc it is horrible but just the thought of it passing disgusts me. It's discrimination on so many levels. Not to mention it could hurt children, domestic abuse victims, and unmarried couples. I am just counting the days until we move

We had this kind of vote back in 2006 here in Wisconsin and when I was at church with my grandma, the Father was telling us to vote to keep marriage between a man and a woman. I was so pissed. Unfortunately in our state, the stupid referendum passed like 60-40. I think my county of Dane was the only county in the entire state of Wisconsin that went against the referendum, all the other ones votes yes to keep marriage defined between a man and a woman. It was a hard loss, but they didn't defeat us or break us down, thousands of people are still fighting hard every day to make Wisconsin Fair and good for them! And I have to believe that even if this passes in your state, people will still work hard and one day, shit like this won't matter and we won't have to vote on it.

There were only a few Republicans outside and unfortunately just when I walked into the town hall the skies opened up and it started pouring Of course that was after one of the guys told me to vote for his candidate because he was the MOST conservative. I wanted to say, "Oh so he wants to be all up in my vagina?" But the man had to be about 90 and I didn't want to give him an heart attack. I don't get why he would have thought I would WANT to vote for THE most conservative candidate anyway. Anyway I voted AGAINST along with all my local votes.
