celebtrashwhore wrote:I personally think facebook requests from people you dont really know are odd. Like you guys were just getting to know eachother... I dont want to be friends with someone where I go to casually socialize and Im also patron. Like if I change bars I dont want to be linked to that person for no reason lol. Ive had facebook since the start but I just dont understand friending someone you just met unless youre both super enthusiastic about being online. Like after you guys became friends then youd go ahead and send him facebook messages? Or facebook chat him? Wouldnt it be easier to get his phone number? Or his email?

However, I wasn't really approaching this as a "let's date and make babies!" kinda thing....moreso just a "hey, you're a cool person!" thing. The place I work at is just like Cheers. It's a neighborhood kinda place where everybody knows everybody and all us girls have a ton of our customers on our facebooks.

I guess it just depends how you view facebook, but to me it is way more casual and non-committal than asking for a phone number and I have literally never had anyone (friend or potential boyfriend) ask for my email address o_O I would also way, way rather some random person be my facebook friend than have my personal phone number.

And in a manner where the person has little control over what youre finding out about them. Yes there are filters but then whats the point of adding someone. I just feel like if you like someone you should try to engage them more actively-- get their number or hang out with them in person. "Were facebookfriends!" ...Now what?I want to know theyre accruing information about me based on what im telling them and not just clicking through stuff online. OP found out his age (and maybe even his kids age?)-- and you tend to puzzle together a picture of a person or jump to conclusions that may or may not be true. And even if give my phone number out-- Im still in control. I can chose to pick up or not. If you have a job that blocks certain websites like facebook then email or even gchat is still a thing. But I also dont use facebook to send messages to people I talk to on a regular basis.
