Sure, with the marriage certificate, he can make all sorts of decisions for her - medical, legal, financial - if she's incapacitated, so then why add the extra step of making him a conservator. It's very sketchy.

And I don't get how the judge ruled that she's not fit to testify in a lawsuit but she's fit to get freaking MARRIED?

I don't think the judge has ruled on it yet. They don't need permission just to get engaged, so I guess it would be when the actual marriage paperwork came into play that the judge would start deciding whether or not she was fit for it. Not that I think that changes the question - it's highly contradictory to say somebodys good to get married if they aren't deemed competent for their other affairs.

I'm not sure that a spouse would have the same powers as a conservator in this situation without being named as one, not sure how that works when people other than the spouse have been named as legal authority - but then apart from anything else it makes me wonder how soon they're actually planning to get married if this is deemed necessary. I don't know. Definitely a lot of unanswered questions around this whole saga and it just looks so off.

What kind of lawsuits is she involved in?

Mostly it's typical business stuff - alleged contract breaches etc, they just settled one with a company who claimed she stiffed them over her perfume deal. The big one though is that Sam Lufti is suing her parents for defamation because of their allegations about what he did to Britney - so of course he wants Britney in court talking about that time in her life.

i admit i'm just skimming...but if this man is such an evil beast accused of gross wrong-doing against B.S. how is it (WHY is it) that he's on the streets suing anyone?

Deformation of character or possibly libel/slander about Lynne wrote about him in her book, I think.

I think Sleepn was asking how he's not been up on criminal charges rather than what he was suing the Spears for.

To which - and I suppose this might answer Daniela's question as well - the allegations mostly amounted to being a highly manipulative bastard, keeping her isolated from friends and family and keeping her drugged. A lot of what he's accused of probably wouldn't be illegal, and of what was I think it'd be hard to prove in the circumstances. More to the point it would of course mean a public trial in which everything they've been trying to keep quiet about Britney's condition and what happened would get an airing. They did get a restraining order against him; it may well be that they decided there was nothing to be gained from it and settled for just keeping him away

It all looks very strange from the outside but what makes me feel a bit better about it all is the amount of judicial/legal scrutiny a conservatorship involves. Whatever else may be going on that we can't know, at least somebody independent is checking in on what they're doing on her behalf.
