Birth Control Pill...which is best?

I don't want anything that will make me gain weight. I'm mostly looking to clear up my skin and obviously prevent babies lol. Also, does anyone use seasonique or any other pill that gives you less periods a year? What have your experiences been? Please help!

I was on Lutera for 4 months and was instructed to take it as you would Seasonale for an extended cycle. Lutera is a low-dose pill (10 mcg). I had heavy breakthrough bleeding from mid-way through my second month all the way through the fourth month. At that time, my doctor switched me to Reclipsin, which is a higher dose (30 mcg). Since I started the Reclipsin, I've had no spotting whatsoever. I love the extended cycle. It's so nice to go 10 weeks without a period! I have a good friend who uses the Nuvaring and she loved it!

Posts: 39788 03/12/2012 7:42 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, Tri Cyclen Lo, Tressia, and Nuva Ring in my ten years of being on B.C. I love. love. love. the Nuva Ring. I've had zero side effects both times going back on it, no weight gain, clearer skin, I don't feel my ovulation cramps AT ALL and pms symptoms are lighter. It's such a hassle-free method and I've never had any complaints from either of the exes I had while I was using it. Infact one enjoyed the sensation it gave him. This time back on it, the nurse practitioner the nurse informed me that they're even recommending more now that you just keep inserting the new ring every 3 weeks (skipping your no ring week and your period) for 3 months because its even more effective then because the hormone supply is always there. With all this said, the BEST thing is to go to your GYN or physician and talk about what might work best with you.

Posts: 3446 04/25/2012 2:13 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	It really depends on your body and hormones. I started on Ortho Tri Cyclen when I was 17 to regulate my horrible periods. Never had a problem besides maybe a little depression. However, it's been determined that the artificial hormones for 10 years until my daughter was born messed me up and I now struggle with vaginal excema and extreme pain that I'm currently undergoing therapy and treatments for. From my research, birth control pills are a common factor in causing this in women. I personally stay away from hormonal BC now. After my daughter was born I switched to a non-hormonal IUD, but I don't think they will do those unless you've had a baby. Just saying be careful, listen to your body. BC works for most people but can have long-term effects. Hormonal BC and I don't get along and it's caused permanent medical issues for me because of the artificial hormones it produces. - Kristen

Posts: 6168 05/05/2012 12:41 AM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I'm on the generic version of Ortho Tri Cyclen now and I like it. I was on the Lo version for two months because my gyno gave me samples to get me through until I could do the mail-order prescription I have to do with my insurance. The Lo was okay except for that it made me SUPER emotional and anxious the first 2-3 days of the pack. I started the generic regular Ortho this month and no emotional issues, thank God. It hasn't made me gain weight and it hasn't cleared up my skin yet but my doctor said that could take 4-5 months. I'm almost done with my third month and I think it's starting to get a little better.
