Posts: 3343 03/01/2012 1:31 AM Womp. Womp. Womp.	I cuss with friends and alone, but never around him and I have never had a problem with dirty words in his little life. Anyway, he came home today and all he has been saying "Fuck!" If something is funny he will laugh and say "Oh fuck!" If he falls he screams out "FUCK!" and it's just fuck this and that. He's only a toddler so you can imagine how horrible this is! I am pretty sure he has learned this the new teenage daycare workers that have been recently hired on. I dislike them for several reasons mostly being they're inattentive towards the children, they're always huddled in groups gossiping and joking around. And stuff like diapers and snot are gross to them so they neglect kids that need either adressed. I have no problem imagining that while goofing off and chasing each other around they probably use profanity, yet I have no proof it was them who taught them this language. I'm 99% sure he's not saying this because he learned it at home. GRRRR!!!! /rant

Posts: 21985 03/01/2012 1:33 AM	Your kids will probably be exposed to swear words no matter what you try to do. Sounds like a good time to start teaching them about appropriate language. My bigger concern would be a daycare that has employees that are teenagers who won't change diapers and neglect the kids.

I know sooner or later he's going to learn the words and will probably use them later on in life, but he and I will have a talk when he's that age. I'm just mortified my toddler won't stop yelling FUCK! lol I keep correcting him with "Truck"

One day we (me, my assistant, and all the kiddies) were sitting around the snack table while the kids ate. Suddenly one of the 2.5-year-old boys says, with a grin on his face, something that sounds suspiciously like, "God damn mother-fu--er." My assistant and I look at each other and agree that we must be hearing it wrong, until we hear it three more times. When brought to the mother's attention, she blamed the people who lived upstairs. I thought the parents were more likely candidates.

I sort of disagree with ignoring it. But I also wouldn't go crazy over it; however maybe the mom could just sit down and have a gentle little discussion about "bad words" and how it's not nice to say them and why. I'm betting there is also a children's book out there that addresses the use of bad language for children that don't realize what they are saying.

My suggestions? If you KNOW they are neglectful, find a new daycare. Try not to gasp and react too strongly when he drops the "f bomb" but go ahead and tell him that word is not to be used. I decided to start my own daycare when I had a very hard time finding one I felt comfortable leaving my own son in...you don't ever have to put up with crap from provider, center or worker. Voice your concerns and make sure you feel like you've really been HEARD. If you don't feel like you have been taken seriously, MOVE HIM. Trust your gut.

Toddlers thrive on words and you don't know what other parents do/say in front of their kids. ETA,...I read afterwards that this is the recommendation from others as well. I had my son at the age of three yell out "sonofabitch" from the back seat when I stopped short. He heard his dad say it a week earlier when someone cut him off in traffic. We try not to use bad language in front of the children, but I have been known to say shit a few times more than I should. Edited 1 time by jenhavins 03/01/2012 4:13 PM.

F---- is not a word people throw around at a work setting, much less one around children. I know that my sister and her husband fight and swear in front of their daycare aged children, and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets told one day that her 4 year old son was swearing at other children-or not even swearing at them, but just saying the words-not being aware of the meaning.
