Apparently since he was already contracted to do the show prior to joining the Mavs, the team had to accommodate his absence as per contract.

DALLAS -- Lamar Odom will miss at least the next two games as he remains away from the team to tend to a family matter, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Tuesday. Odom will miss tonight's home against the New Jersey Nets and Wednesday's game at the Memphis Grizzlies. Carlisle did not say when the forward is expected to return, only that his situation will be updated Thursday. "Lamar is going to not be with us these two games and then we'll update everybody Thursday as to where we're at," Carlisle said. "But he's got a tough situation he's going through. We're very supportive as a franchise and we'll let you know Thursday where we are."Odom left the team last Wednesday to attend to his ill father in Los Angeles, a source confirmed. After Odom didn't return for Monday's practice, rumors that the 13-year veteran, who briefly contemplated retirement during the offseason, is seeking a buyout were negated by Mavs owner Mark Cuban. "It hasn't been discussed and we wouldn't do it," Cuban said. "We think Lamar can be a huge plus for us. ... Sometimes guys go through issues and we have to deal with them. We always try to support our guys." Two sources with knowledge of Odom's thinking told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Monday night that -- while the 32-year-old admittedly did briefly ponder retirement during the offseason following the death of a younger cousin -- Odom wants to keep playing despite his season-long struggles. Odom has had a disappointing two months in his first season with Dallas. The NBA's reigning Sixth Man of the Year is averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 32 games. "It's going to work itself out one way or another," Mavericks guard Jason Kidd said of the Odom situation. "We just hope it works itself out soon."The Mavs will be without Odom and reserve point guard Delonte West, who is expected to miss a few more weeks after undergoing surgery on his fractured right ring finger. Dallas will have backup guard Rodrigue Beaubois, who returned Monday after leaving the team last week following the death of his father.
