We have a lot of people out of work today because of their kids at Chardon or nearby schools. So sad. And that picture is absolutely disgusting.

CHARDON, Ohio -- MetroHealth Medical Center has named the Chardon High School student who died after this morning's school shooting. Daniel Parmentor was one of three students lifeflighted to the hospital after the 7:30 a.m. shooting. "We are shocked by this senseless tragedy," his parents said in a prepared statement. "Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss."

It just seems like they"d be easier targets that way, unless the other school already had police there and were on tight lockdown?

The suspect had turned Gothic according to an interview I heard today.

[Updated 1:19 p.m. ET] A student who hid in a classroom at Chardon High School said that T.J. Lane, the suspect in Monday's shooting, "was a nice guy" who he never suspected would shoot anyone. “He just came from a really broken down home and he was living with his grandparents," Evan Erasmus, a senior at the school told CNN. "He was more of a quiet type of kid. He was really nice, though, if you did talk to him.” Erasmus said that Lane and some of the victims "used to be friends" but more in middle school and early high school. “He was one of the nicest kids there…," Erasmus said. "It was really shocking that it was him.” Erasmus told CNN that he believed T.J. Lane was either a sophomore or junior at the school. He said that Lane was sitting about a table away from some of the victims. Erasmus said he heard the victims "were all sitting there and then he just stood up and that’s when it all started." Meanwhile, he and the other students in a nearby classroom, "turned the lights off and we headed into a corner" after the shooting.

The only thing I heard about him "turning goth" was in a comment from a fellow student, that he had recently "gone goth," but still had friends. No indication that it has anything at all to do with the shootings.

Folks don't "turn Gothic" the way someone converts to a religion so I'm curious as to all that was said. And what does being Goth have to do with maiming and murdering people? I hate these sorts of tie-ins and I want to get to the bottom of it.

Nate Mueller, a student who said he was sitting in the cafeteria at a table with three of the victims, told WKYC.com that his ear was grazed by one of the bullets as he turned away from the gunman. “He didn’t say anything the entire time. He took one shot, and then that’s when we looked to see what was happening because it sounded like a firecracker almost, and at that point I looked back, I saw him shoot -- which hit one of my other friends that was sitting at the table with us. And then, as I was turning around ... that’s when he hit me.” Mueller said the shooting didn't seem real. "It all feels like a movie. ... I am sure tomorrow I’ll be devastated." The gunman, who used a revolver, had been a friend of Mueller's until the end of junior high school. Mueller said at that point the gunman had entered a "gothic" phase. “He still had friends. He was still a nice kid … we didn’t think he would hurt anybody,” he said. “He was not like a jock, a popular kid," student Evan Erasmus told Channel 5. “He has friends, but he would be considered the outcast type."
