Posts: 780 02/25/2012 10:16 PM	Nasty. I was just reading how in France the public schools serve five course meals to their students starting at age three. An appetizer, main dish, cheese course , fruit and dessert. All planned by top gourmet chefs. How sad we feed our kids garbage in this country.

Posts: 16821 02/25/2012 11:04 PM Most Dramatic JJBer '09	I use to eat school lunch every day! It probably wasn't the healthiest, but it tasted pretty good, and I got a good selection. I always had a fruit, veggie (hot or cold) and the main courses were good.

When I was in Elementary school I did drink milk, but in college I stopped and now I can't drink milk - but I can't now. But I agree, people are lactose intolerant, however, if the girl was eating cheese I don't think that's the case though.

Posts: 80256 02/25/2012 11:12 PM Madam Irma Pince	I didn't think of the cheese thing (DUH) but I still think it's messed up to make kids drink something they don't want or that their parents didn't send with them. Her parents wanted her to have apple juice, let her drink her damn apple juice. It's not like she was sent to school with a 40. My school used to make me drink milk too. I wasn't lactose intolerant but I didn't freaking want the milk.

It's not as isolated as you think. I caught the story on two radio stations and they had many calls from parents that had similar situations happen.

This is why, as a child of an educator and a hopefully soon-to-be FT teacher, I get annoyed with the petty shit the gov't likes to harp on. All the testing and such, expect more of teachers (because of said testing) but less pay. We wonder why children are fatter than ever when we no longer reiterate nutrition and consistently have them in PE when learning those habits matter most..

I never thought of it that way. I'm a liberal and that story pissed me off big time. I viewed it as the mistake of one ill-trained or misinformed inspector who made a wrong decision. Her packed lunch was sufficient but she was told that she had to go get a replacement because it had been deemed that there was a certain nutrition requirement that hadn't been fulfilled. The girl was sent through the lunch line to get a full lunch but somehow it was reported that she was given only chicken nuggets to eat. The quality of the lunch she was given is the fault only of those who have deemed such a meal acceptable. Certain people ran with the story and tried to make it seem like all of our children are being fed crap because there is some evil conspiracy to stop kids from eating healthier things like a turkey sandwich.
