INDIANAPOLIS -- Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who was the last player in uniform in a somber postgame locker room, began his remarks by tipping his cap to the Giants.

"I'd like to give the Giants a lot of credit," he said. "They certainly made the plays when they needed to. That is a very good football team. They put a lot of pressure on us. We just came up a little bit short. I think we had a couple of missed opportunities out there. Every guy in the locker room wishes he could have done a little bit more and maybe the outcome would have been a little bit different. It was a very hard-fought game and we fought until the end. I'm very proud of that. I'd say we just came up a little short."

One of the big topics of discussion was the second-and-11 play with four minutes remaining, with Brady and receiver Wes Welker unable to connect.

"Wes was running down the field and it looked like they messed the coverage up a little bit and I threw it to him," Brady said. "He went up to try and make it, as he always does, and we just couldn't connect. He's a hell of a player. I'll keep throwing the ball to him for as long as I possibly can. He's a phenomenal player and teammate. I love that guy."

As for the intentional grounding penalty on the Patriots' first offensive play, Brady said, "It's a referee's judgment call. I was looking down the middle of the field and [Justin] Tuck was looking to come get me and I tried to get rid of it. The referee made the call."

Summing up the game, Brady said, "They made a few more plays than we did. They've done a good job of that all season. Like I said, we all wish we could have done a little bit more. Our team fought really hard. Our defense really held at certain points today. They knocked some balls out. I wish we'd have gotten one of those. The ball didn't really bounce our way either. They played a good game."
