That bothered me too but at the same time they had nothing else so it was worth a shot. I could understand where they were coming from, even though to us it was completely illogical and the last thing we want is for our boys to do something stupid that'll get themselves killed (like, really killed this time --- it is Lucifer ).

Same here!!! I was like, dammit what was even the point of them doing that? Where they afraid that they'd somehow be stuck as ghosts if the last photo they were in stuck around? WHAT was the point?

He really did.  I hope we get to see more of Sam fighting on his own and less of Dean in Purgatory partly because I think Cas should be able to zap Dean out, and because SPN doesn't have the time or the money to make it look really, really awesome.  

I also wish Sam had more a reaction to hellhounds.  They ripped his brother apart and he never seems to flinch when they're around.  That's another thing that kind of bugged me about "Abandon All Hope." 

I agree about him playing tortured Sam great and wanting more of him being alone, figuring things out for himself. I also think/am crossing my fingers that the cliffhanger ends up not being a cliffhanger (I think I mentioned this before), so Cas leaves for a moment but comes back immediately to get Dean and they peace out. Then the season can continue from there. I really don't want a show of 90% Dean and Cas in CGI land while Sam once in a while is shown trying to figure this out. Not to mention I think there'd be too many loop holes if they showed Sam actually trying to figure it out because, technically speaking, it took an ENTIRE season just for purgatory to open, so they actually already know how... It would just be Sam, you know... Finding a virgin, sacrificing her, getting the ritual etc. Ya no thank you.

I just want that part to be over with and an actual fresh season to start from that point.
