Long story short, I got this job, I trained, I worked a shift and now I am not being put on the schedule because I don't have "the look." I'm not a skinny-minnie, but I'm not grossly overweight. I could stand to lose a few pounds, I've been through this weight struggle my whole life and finally accept myself for who I am. I'm a 14 if that makes any difference, just so you have an idea. I am physically capable, did great through my training and my first night on the floor alone and have testimony to that.
My boss' issue with me was brought up in company meetings and other staff has fought for me, however, since the GM thinks I am not the right look, he won't give me shifts. This is for a place that is struggling to find people to work, hence the reason I had one night of training and was put on the floor alone the next day since they had nobody to work that shift.
I am great at this job, I love this job. I think there is some wrong-doing, honestly, I think it's discriminatory. I don't see a size 14 as being so big that you flat out refuse to hire that person. I looked up laws so I can understand the other side of the issue - which is the employee fitting in certain spaces, health insurance issues, nothing which pertains to me. However, the whole people wanting to buy more from pretty people is the angle I think he is coming from. My numbers, for the first night, were on par.
If I could fit certain places or if I wasn't fast enough, fine, I would understand. But it's not like that.
I really wanted this job, I was never really fired and I'm sure if I call he's just going to tell me he's staffed, which I know for a fact he isn't. What would you do? Look for another job or say something and stand up for yourself?
Edit: I was never actually fired, however, when the staff (including the guy that actually hired me, who is assist. manager) asked him why he wasn't putting me on the schedule since he's in dire need and I have open availability, he said I wasn't going to be on the schedule since I didn't have "the look."
