But you can't tell the government that a civil servant can't perform them.I've always wondered why people who make marriage into a religious only thing aren't against the need for a license, or against Vegas and their 10 minute marriages (and divorces). Or why they haven't started the petition to make divorce illegal, or being against people who get married/divorced/married/divorced. Exactly! Having to get a license or to get a divorce decree makes marriage a CIVIL matter. Choosing to do it in a church is where religion comes in.

I agree that some people seem to wrapped up in who other people sleep with. They somehow decided that the decision is up to them. Those people need to fall back.

But I'm trying to understand what you're saying. Are you saying that by having gay marriage, gays will think that straight couples will acknowledge them or treat them any better? That's very wishful thinking
Once again, what's wrong with a civil union. And let the religious folks have marriage. I don't see the problem in that except the whole separate but equal bullshit.

That's very wishful thinking Not in the slightest - don't know how you managed to squeeze that out of it. If I defend another person's right to free speech am I suggesting that by virtue of them having it everybody would accept/like what they have to say? Course not. The point is equality under the law, not universal approval. Anybody waiting for the latter would be better off sticking around for Godot. Once again, what's wrong with a civil union. And let the religious folks have marriage. I don't see the problem in that except the whole separate but equal bullshit. Yeah, see, that exception is still a pretty sizable problem in my book. I see no inherent problem in a civil union - but if you're going to do that the distinction shouldn't be between gay and straight. Heck, I'm sure plenty of straight couples might prefer the notion of a civil union to marriage.
