Spoiler [+] - I think I'm missing some of the significance of Beth's character... ? - Did Nina really go visit Beth in the hospital that 2nd time? - What made Nina fall during the performance? - She saw she'd 'stabbed' herself in the dressing room when she figured out there was no dead body. But when did she actually stab herself to die? - My 'theory' before the end of the movie was somehow the fall at the end was goin to kill her -- like there'd be no mattress to fall on (or she'd imagine there was no mattress, but just jump anyway as in finally "letting go" and not being paranoid), etc.

Spoiler [+] - I think I'm missing some of the significance of Beth's character... ? - Did Nina really go visit Beth in the hospital that 2nd time?- What made Nina fall during the performance?- She saw she'd 'stabbed' herself in the dressing room when she figured out there was no dead body. But when did she actually stab herself to die?- My 'theory' before the end of the movie was somehow the fall at the end was goin to kill her -- like there'd be no mattress to fall on (or she'd imagine there was no mattress, but just jump anyway as in finally "letting go" and not being paranoid), etc. Spoiler [+] Throughout the movie sometimes Nina would imagine people laughing at her or whispering voices. She heard those during the performance and that's why she fell. I also think she saw her mother in the audience, but I don't remember exactly when she did - like if it was before or after the fall. Beth's significance was what Nina was afraid of becoming. At least that's what I thought. The old ballerina that people tossed aside and didn't care about anymore.

Spoiler [+]She also caught sight of Lily. I'm almost certain that's when she falls. I think the anticipation of becoming the Black Swan during her White Swan performance got the best of her. She was already focusing on releasing the Black Swan instead of completing the White Swan. And yes, Beth's mere existence simply displayed that "perfect" doesn't last. You can't be the "little princess" forever. And if anything, this provoked Nina's paranoia and anxiety even further.
