Christie Stordeur, 23, was one of five protesters standing about 40 feet from the entrance of a Republican Party office on South Second Avenue at 10:25 a.m. Friday, reported the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin. Also standing in the area was Victor R. Phillips, 72, of Walla Walla, who had a camera. According to a sheriff's report, Phillips said he wanted to get a picture of the protesters, who were wearing bags over their heads and holding a sign that looked like a check. The deputy said he saw Phillips walk over to Stordeur and lift the bag off her head. Stordeur lifted her arm in defense, and that is when Phillips hit her arm with "force," said the newspaper. The deputy immediately stepped between the two and arrested Phillips on investigation of assault.

And I don't think it is far fetched to say the republican officeholders/party have co-opted the Tea Party movement. When tea party leaders join Republican lawmakers for private strategy sessions followed by campaign rallies it is safe to say each has endorsed the other.

Not all Republicans do this though, only the extremists. Not all Republican politicians support the teaparty and not all Republican people do either, so her statement was general enough to be untrue and ignorant. Of course not all Republicans, but whether you agree with the Tea Party movement or not it is a train of a cultural phenomena. And after the last elections the Republican party needed something as a booster, so the embracing of the tea party began even at the peril to party, because the more extremist elements of the movement create the perception that Republicans endorse them even when some don't. I guess some Republican leaders felt they could absorb the movement, harness the looney toons and everything would be gravy, but like a retrovirus the Tea Pary is damaging its host.

The Neo-con wing of the Republican party has tried to co-opt the tea party, but it wasn't always like that. And like I just mentioned, there are many different kinds of Republicans. So it doesn't make you look intelligent to lump them all together and say they are the same thing. There are even different kinds of Democrats.
