The Hollywood star spoke to people displaced by the heavy flooding as she arrived in Pakistan as part of a two day visit in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations' refugee agency. The flow of aid money has stalled in recent days, and officials expressed hope the two-day visit by Jolie — who serves as a "goodwill ambassador" for the U.N.'s refugee agency — will convince foreign countries and individuals to open their wallets. The 35-year-old actress said she met with many people whose lives have been devastated by the floods, including mothers who lost their children and an elderly Pakistani couple who feared they would never be able to rebuild the home they lost. "I am very moved by them and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan," Jolie told reporters after visiting a refugee camp in the Jalozai area. She toured the area wearing a long black robe and a black headscarf adorned with a thin red stripe — the kind of conservative clothing worn by many Muslim women in Pakistan. The floods began in the northwest at the end of July after extremely heavy monsoon rains and slowly surged south along the Indus River, swallowing up hundreds of villages and towns and killing more than 1,700 people. Another 17 million have been affected by the floods, and many will need emergency assistance to survive. The United Nations issued an appeal for $460 million in emergency funds on Aug. 11, but only $294 million, or 64 percent, has been received so far, and donations have more or less dried up in recent days. Ajay Chhibber, a U.N. assistant secretary general, said he hopes Jolie's visit will have "a very big impact" on the inflow of aid money and will keep people focused on the crisis. "We need more ... well-known figures who can keep the spotlight and focus because people tend to forget internationally," said Chhibber, who is also the U.N. development agency's regional director for Asia. He spoke to reporters during a visit to Islamabad.

Angelina has been doing this for 10 years now. She does not need any publicity, she is not promoting any project, she is bringing the media that hounds her life 24/7 to focus on those who are hidden and forgotten. Guess the purpose of her efforts are too much for you to comprehend. But those who will receive critically needed life sustaining assistance due in part to her efforts are quite grateful. Food, blankets, some type of shelter, dry clothing, simple needs all. They comprehend. BTW the correct spelling is "humanitarian", you might have at least tried to get something right.

But, I don't get when people start criticizing celebrities when they do humanitarian work. The fact is...if she didn't care about these people, she wouldn't go so out of her way to help. It doesn't matter if the shit is staged for a photo op, or if she has a crew of people with her...she's still doing it more often than not which is more than anyone here can probably say. There is seriously almost no one that can be a consistent humanitarian without catching flack from people who doubt their motives. Bono, Sean Penn, Jolie, etc...they may have done shit things in their lives. But..what are YOU doing?

While I commend AJ for her humanitarian efforts, there's no doubt in my mind that she's doing it for personal PR more than anything else.

There are several celebrities out there that do things for PR and to improve their image, most celebrities do charity work, but in the form of writing a check to some foundation and that's it. But if you take into account just how much she's done, including adopting some of these children as her own, common sense might just tell you that she does care at least an iota. Even if you want to believe some of it is for self promotion, you don't spend so much time and effort doing something just for some superficial gain so you can lay down at night go, "Yep, they think I'm amazing." That goes for any other celebrities that can walk out of their lavish lives for a bit and spend some time in real filth and devastation. No one can do that and not feel for these people.

There have been tons of photos of the flood victims in the last month. Did anyone start a thread and post them on JJ.YUKU. Someone like you for instance kitson. The whole point of Angelina going to any refugee or disaster camp is that ANGELINAJOLIE went there. Why would UNHCR NOT transmit photos of her? Every time she goes, and is filmed, the donations increase.

And how do you absolutely know without any doubts or reservations, "that she is doing it for personal PR"? What divine proof do you possess that all others lack? For over 10 years, Angelina has been seeing people covered with blood and open wounds as various body parts have been chopped off, seeing women and babies who have been raped repeated, seeing and smelling people living in open sewage pits in filthy clothing through no fault of their own, seeing hungry starving people covered in flies, seeing the sick and dying lying out in the open with little or medical care, being in areas of great danger with wars raging all around her, this is what people do for personal PR? Never once has she complained, never once has she condemned, never once has she held press conferences to extol her trips for any personal PR gain. She keeps her focus on those who need help, never on her. She dresses as the people in the area dress, she does not go into an area dressed with full makeup as a celeb, she respects the cultures of those she visits. She accepts the conditions she encounters as she finds them, just as she accepts the people she encounters. Never once has there been any complaints about her from any aid workers as to her acting a diva and insisting on special conditions for any personal PR. What cloistered world do you live in?
