There was a book I read when I was younger that I loved but I can't remember the name of it.

The lead female character was approached by a ghost. Anytime the ghost was around, she smelled some sort of candy (I almost want to say Hershey's Kisses). She needed to help cross him over to the other side. The only thing he could remember is that he was in love with a girl before he died and that she ended up marrying a guy by the name of "Phil Pots", which later turned out to be "Phillips" and the girl he was in love with was actually the lead female's mother. Once she solved the mystery and crossed him over, she was depressed that he was gone until a new student joined her class and he loved the same candy that the ghost smelled like.
