We got this in March of '08 and in like January of '09 we sent it in to get the jack replaced (still under warranty). It worked fine until a few months ago and we started having the same problem. It's not under warranty now and they refused to do anything about it unless we paid over $300. I've heard a LOT of people have the same issues with HP's.Thanks for that. I've been so happy with my Toshiba that I'd probably go with another one. We've had a couple of Dells and both have given us problems. Acers are affordable too, but I wonder how good they are.

After the warranty, my dad was able to solder the jack back in place. If you can find someone that knows what their doing, you could get it done cheaper that $300.Sometimes the problem is that the connections on the jack come loose and just soldering it will fix it. Sometimes the jack itself goes bad. My husband tried soldering ours and it didn't work. The problem with ours seems to be that the jack doesn't hold onto the power cord tight enough to keep the connection. But you can still get a replacement jack for $50-ish dollars and solder it in. A lot cheaper than what HP wants, but you still shouldn't have to deal with that at all.

beklah324 wrote: I never knew laptops came with scroll wheels I remember back before the touchpad, there was that green button in the middle of the keys, which I always found annoying when I'd play with laptops at like Best Buy or something. When I got a laptop (Gateway) for college in '02, it only had a touchpad.
