6 Arrested In Brutal Assault, Homicide Of Greensburg Woman

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Six
people have been arrested and charged in connection with the brutal
assault and homicide of a woman found wrapped in plastic and stuffed
inside a garbage can in a school parking lot on Main Street in
Greensburg. According to the criminal complaint the victim, Jennifer Daugherty, suffered multiple stab wounds and was bound with Christmas decorations and clothing. Officers said they believe she was stabbed in an apartment in the 400 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue before being moved to the parking lot. Greensburg police said that a man parked his car at Greensburg Salem Middle School on Wednesday night to make room for snow plows that were going to be clearing his street. He retrieved his car at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday and found the garbage can under his vehicle. Channel 4 Action News' Jennifer Miele reported the criminal complaint said the suspects tortured the victim for 36 hours. According to investigator, the suspects struck Daugherty with a towel rack, vacuum cleaner hose and a crutch. Daugherty's hair was cut and her face painted with nail polish and she was made to eat or drink vegetable oil, spices, detergent, urine and medications. Miele reported police also said Daugherty was forced to write out a contrived suicide note that was dictated to her. Police said Daugherty had been missing since Feb. 8 when she left Mount Pleasant for Greensburg by bus. Meidinger, 20, Melvin Knight, 20, and Ricky V. Smyrnes, 23, all of Greensburg, and Peggy Darlene Miller, 27, no address available.Robert Loren Masters, 39, and Angela Marinucci, 17, both of Greensburg, are facing charges of criminal conspiracy. Marinucci is being charged as an adult. Smyrnes', Masters' and Knight's addresses are listed as the same as where police said Daugherty was stabbed. |
