I know everybody says their family has the best fam. for a TV show, but I think my fam. really does!
My dad has ALZ and I think that we could make a decent show out of it. Not exploiting, not depressing...
Just a legit family dealing with the disease...in a non-depressing way.
Everybody makes the disease out to be completely depressing. We are the true lemonade out of lemons story.
Yeah, I'm a bitch when I don't get any sleep. I get pissed when I find the ice cream container in my laundry hamper (B/c choc. ice cream is a bitch to get out!)
But, we also laugh at his ridic dressing habits (my jean skirt fit him better then it did me!) and he really does say the fucking funniest things! He does love dressing up. Today he came in my room with my hot sunglasses and my brother's graduation cap on!
I just think it would make people see the disease in a lighter matter. Everybody gets depressed when they hear ALZ....but my dad is the BEST thing that ever happened to me. I am so glad that I got this time to get to know HIM...who he was/is. He maintains his personality, even if he has no clue who the hell anybody else is. He is sweet and docile, very welcoming, loves to be around people. We have had to deal with the abusive side, just started recently. Not to a crazy extent, he's just frustrated. Slams doors, kicks walls, etc...but I think how we deal with it also shows how we deal with the disease.
If you tell him he looks nice, he says "thank you!" He LOVES to dance to his Indian music. It's amazing to watch him when he watches TV...the things that are going on his brain, we'll never know. He was watching a Michael Jackson special the other day and the man knew they ENTIRE Thriller dance.
I want people to know that this disease just doesn't kill. It doesn't just take your loved ones away. Sometimes, it actually accuates their personalities. At a certain point, they will be gone. My dad is slipping away and I know that. I want people to be able to understand that just dealing with this disease isn't accepting it. There's just so much more to it...to understand, to know what is going through his mind just by looking into his eyes...
I just think that by putting it on TV, it will help to over-ride the bad aspects of the disease. I've had a lot more fun times, but still taking in the bad. I have gotten to know my father, stipped down, for who he really is.
