My BF and I decided to take on a very difficult hike that we've been avoiding for sometime. Its 25 km round trip (15.5 miles) + 2000m (6500 feet)
elevation change. On top of these statistics, its just a damn hard, uneven trail, with parts where you literally have to "Scramble" up the side of a
cliff. (we'd done trails that were similar distance/elevation, but better trail conditions in 6 hours). All the time estimations were coming in at a
solid 12 hours if you are in good shape.
Anyways, we do it, leave the moment the park opens at 7am, and it takes us 10.5 hours. With a 30 minute lunch break at the peak, we arrived back in the parking lot at 6pm, just before it was going to get dark at 7pm. We were the first people leaving for the day, and then 2 hours into the hike, this crazy dude runs past us. Yes, RUNS straight up the mountain. I now see that someone named "Trail Runner" wrote a review online about his day, and he says he did it in freaking 4 hours and 40 mins and could have gone 'so much faster' if he'd paced himself better
He also says that a 'strong
technical runner' could do it in 3.5 hours!
I cannot imagine how some people do it - how is it even physically possible! I can still barely walk after my HIKE let alone a run
