I don't think they're going to be sticking to the books at all regarding Bill and Lorena. For one thing she wasn't Bill's maker in the books.

I also think that in the books it wasn't necessarily that Bill was the "bad guy" but rather that he messed up.

But back to the show: I think Sookie and Bill will be somewhat on again/ off again as the show goes on. Alan Ball has said that he sees Bill as more of a "hero" in the show than he was in the books. That said I don't think Eric is going to be a villain. More like morally ambiguous. I didn't get the impression that he had much to do with Lorena coming after Bill, based on the preview

Lorena absolutely was Bill's maker.

In book 3 Club Dead, Bill was supposed to have been summoned by her and I think he was tricked or something like that into coming to Mississippi and they had sex then she tortured him. It said in the book or maybe it was in book 4, that she was like his mother and that was kind of icky being his lover, too. Bill and Lorena were together for about 60 years which was unusual for vampires.

I don't recall them mentioning it in the books so it must not have been gone into very much, but I believe you. I'll dig out book 3 and 4 and have a look later. Regardless Bill's "making" is never really gone into in the books the way it is on the show.

As for the show, I can see Lorena causing some...tension, shall we say in the Bill/Sookie relationship. I just don't expect it to lead to his disappearance from the show in the way that it did from the books.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I thought it was a pretty big deal in the books. She was his maker, and when she called him, he went back to her and left Sookie...I mean, it was the whole reason Bill and Sookie broke up.

As I remember it, in book 3 Eric told Sookie that Lorena was an "ex" of Bill's. That when vamipres hook up with other vampires they are linked through eternity (which is why it's so rare that it happens) which is why he came when she called. I just don't remember them saying that she was his maker. The whole Lorena incident was absolutely a big deal in the books but it was more ofd a big deal because of the reprecussions to Sookie and Bill than because of Lorena herself - she's disposed of fairly quickly.

On the show I can see the Lorena thing having represcussion on the Sookie and Bill relationship as well. But I don't think it will result in Bill's absence from the show in the way that he sort of disappeared from the books. I think Alan Ball is creating the show's Bill as a sort of tortured hero archetype. I think that regardless of whether or not he stays with Sookie he's not leaving the show.

I'm pretty sure that after he was called by her, he decided to leave Sookie and was going to come back to 'make sure she was taken care of' (or something like that) by setting up some sort of fund for her. Plus he lied to her and told her he was going to Seattle when he ended up going to Mississippi to fuck Lorena.

And the reason vamps don't have long relationships is because it gives too much power over them

Oh I know all that. I just didn't recall them saying that she was his maker. I probably just forgot that bit though.

I think the show will play that storyline differently from the book. That's all I'm saying
