I'm going on a trip to NYC for a week mid-July... and I've never been. Are there any suggestions for things to do? Not necessarily touristy.. just
experiences you can only get in NY. Any venues to see live singer/songwriter music at? And is Billy Elliot worth watching on Broadway? Thanks!

John's Pizza on Bleecker St.
Also, The View Restaurant on Broadway - the restaurant revolves, I had one of the greatest nights in NY there.

You must go to Little Italy for some great Italian food. I really liked Pellegrinos

Apparently there's a street in the Bronx which has way better Italian food. (I dated a fresh-off-the-boat Italian who despised Little Italy). I don't
know the name but I would avoid Little Italy as it's a tourist trap and I'm sure you can find waaayyyy better food elsewhere.
I would travel to the outer boroughs. Specifically Brooklyn and walk the cobble-stone streets in Brooklyn Heights. From there, I would walk to the Brooklyn Bridge Park, lay out a blanket, and watch the free movies that they have there during the summer. (You can google Brooklyn Bridge Park for dates). They always have good food (Rice is a great restaurant that caters at this event) and the view of the NYC skyline and the Bklyn bridge is phenomenal. |
