Does your status automatically change to away if you've been idle for a long time or do you have to change it?

After a certain amount of time it will change to idle. You can set it but I forget what the default is.

I sent my brother a message about 30 minutes ago and 10 mins later or so his status changed to AWAY but he never responded. Punk! I think he changed it!

if you hover over his name it would say "away" idle. if you delete all the away messages "away" comes back up as one that always stays
there. he was probably idle
