It's not too late to be a fan. His music is great. It just reminds me how shitty most music is today.

I always loved his music, Thriller (album) particularly, but I didn't really know how amazing he was in concert because I'd never seen footage.
Now I regret never seeing him in concert. All that cheesy hat dancing the Backstreet Boys did was inspired by him, and he of course did it 50x better. |

There's something magical about his performances... I'm impressed he can sing and do all that high-energy dancing at the same time.
I always assumed Britney was lip-synching because she got winded from dancing or it wasn't possible to do both. MJ

What sucks is his career was basically ruined. I'm glad I still remember watching his videos as a kid. Smooth Criminal is the shit. Most people love
Thriller and I do as well but Smooth Criminal is my favorite.
Go download all his stuff! |

I agree Alicia.
MJ had such a tragic life because other people were so focused on bringing him down - his dad, the greedy money-hungry people who didn't care what their accusations did to him. It was literally the death of him. |

He was my WORLD during thriller up until the history album. Then Invincible came out, and I was super excited again. This whole thing has just ruined me, and I
have moonwalker commited to memory. You should just download his stuff and be a fan now, better late then never Kelli!

I've had the Smooth Criminal video open in one of my tabs all week. He just put so much effort into his music and his videos. His music meant something to
him. He tried hard because he loved what he did not because he needed to come up with something catchy to sell records which is almost all of what music is
today.

It just amazes me that his music after so many years is just as relevant now as it was back then. I can't imagine there will ever be another like him. In
talent and innovation nor in popularity. He's just untouchable to me.

He made songs with strong messages about relevant subject matter and he made them fun. Black Or White anyone? No one does that today. They don't even dare
to try. Music today is about seeing how far you can push the envelope when it comes things of a sexual nature. I'm not going to lie and say that I
don't like any of these songs or find them catchy but I can promise you in 20 years I'll forget they even existed but I'll still love MJ as much as
I ever did. Part of my sadness in him dying aside from the fact that I feel bad about how cruel people were is I can't even hope that I'll ever have
that in another artist again. I can't see myself down the road listening to the music of today and being nostalgic and loving it even more than I did when
it was brand new.
This threads got me going now. |

My boss had yesterday off and called me at 7:15....he wanted to know what the song was "that had the video where the Earth was exploding around
him".....I told him it was Earth Song and he told me it was definitely his favorite MJ song. I asked him if he realized what he was singing about in that
song or if he just liked the song (my boss isn't exactly the deepest guy and has been known to like the stupidest songs on the planet "cuz they sound
good") and he went, "No, I know what he's singing about, that's why I like it. The music behind it just drove it home."
Kind of a deep conversation for 7:15 in the morning.....but whatever. LOL |

I don't really talk to you much Alicia, but you're pretty much saying everything I have been saying for the past week.
When I was a kid lol, I used to re-enact the scene from Bad where he pulls the air conditioner vent off the wall, WHILE THE VIDEO WAS PLAYING. |

And I forgot to add that they didn't come across as forced or preachy. There was no question that his intentions were pure and he wasn't just trying to
make a meaningful song so people will take him seriously.

Alicia, everything you've said in this post is exactly why his death has hit me so hard. I honestly never thought I'd be mourning a celebrity the way I
am with him. I just feel like he was so natural, pure, talented, etc, etc, etc, and I don't think we'll ever see another artist like him. His music is
what I remember from my childhood. I remember being glued to the TV to watch him perform because he was so electrifying.
Not to mention, I think he was a genuinely good soul with good intentions and a wonderful heart. |
