They're long and uncomfortable, but it eventually ends.

That was deep, Lisa. That statement can also be applied to life in general.

They're really not that bad.. it does take a while depending on how big the tooth is, but usually they give you something to hold your mouth open so you
don't have to be too uncomfortable. It will suck, but it's not going to hurt or anything.

I've had 2 and they weren't bad at all. More annoying and uncomfortable than painful.

I would hope they numb you with drugs or something. I can't deal

My dentist told me that the shots are the most painful part, but I don't know if he was lying to me or not.

lol, sorry!
Yes, the Novocain to me is the worst part, and then when the Novocain wears off. The long part is the also bad, as you have to keep your mouth open for what seems like forever, and my jaw has a tendency to seize up. |

I'm in the midst of going through a root canal now Maggie. I have my 3rd appointment today. The worst part is definitely the Novocaine.

Best root canal I ever had was at the dental school in Texas, and I got Haldoyl to take before hand.

The thing that sucks is that I brought this upon myself by brushing too hard. I effed up my gums. My dentist referred me to two different specialists, and I asked him which one was hotter, because if I'm going to be uncomfortable for a long period of time, I want to have something nice to look at at least. |

Never had a root canal, but just in response to a couple of the things mentioned:
- My dentist puts a numbing cream on before he injects Novocaine when filling a tooth. It's just Ambasol, I think -- whatever it is you put on teething babies. It's a little thing, but makes a big difference! - And also while getting fillings, I've had a biting block in my mouth while the filling sets or whatever. Keeps me from straining to keep my mouth open. Again, it's a little thing, but helps a lot. |

Worst pain of my life. I had to go in 3 times before they could finish cleaning out the tooth. The first 2 times they couldn't get me numb enough and we
think I still had some infection lingering. The 3rd time I walked in and told them to start me off with 2 shots and once I was numb he gave me 2 more closer to
the tooth.
I still felt a bit of pain but it was managable. The other 2 times I was begging them to pull out the tooth. |

I don't have an infection, just a small amount of sensitivity which is why I went in to have it checked out. According to my dentist I caught the cycle at
the very, very beginning which is good.
Idk. I keep getting mixed responses, and I know I'm not going to know until I go in and get it done, so I'm nervous! |

I had one a few weeks ago (my dentist had to go through my molar to get a nerve out of my gum) and it wasn't bad at all. On the first visit she took the
nerve out which took I would say about half an hour then on the second visit she had to do the actual root canal on the tooth. I just brought my music to
listen to and was totally fine. I didn't feel anything at all and the music made the time go by faster for me which was much needed since it took I think a
little over an hour.
I was in a lot of pain that night, but I was told that's normal since I had been in a LOT of pain before having the procedure done. I just took some (very strong) painkillers that I'd already had and after a day or so the pain went away. Now I'm just waiting to have the permanent filling done (which will probably be next week) since my tooth is too small for a crown. |
