The 2006 adaption of Jane Eyre. If only for Toby Stephens as Rochester. Guh.

i think the movie version of atonement better than the book. the humor came across better, all the characters, music, and scenery were brilliant, and the one
deviation from the book (the end) i preferred.

I also agree with "To Kill a Mockingbird". Excellent transition from book to film - script, cast - everything.

Also, LOTR trilogy by Peter Jackson. How he was able to condense that and still keep its magic and make it even more brilliant? Genius, he deserved all those Oscars |

Secret life of Bees was very similar to the book, not sure if it was the best though.

I liked the recent BBC S & S adaptation. Thompson/Ang version felt too Hollywood to me.

Totally agree with to Kill A Mockingbird and the Harry Potter films. Also Tell No One- To go from New York in the book to Paris in the movie and also being a foreign movie, that big transition didnt take away from the suspense and good story-telling like the book. Their both excellent! |

The Count of Monte Cristo movie (2002) is a lot different than the book, but it fucking ROCKS.

Out of sight, great book but the movie is even better.

Definitely agree with To Kill A Mockingbird, The Notebook, Atonement, and the LOTR trilogy. I love both the BBC's Pride and Prejudice and the newest adaptation, but I really prefer Keira as Elizabeth. The new Sense and Sensibility on PBS was excellent as well. I really like A Walk to Remember too. |

I also have to say so far I like the way that True Blood is playing out on HBO its so similar to the books. OMG, I can't believe I forgot about The Color Purple! Awesomeness!!!!!!

^The first season of True Blood was similar to the books but as it goes on it's deviating.
A few of my other fave adaptations: Gone With the Wind (hard to say which I prefer, book or movie) Rebecca (Hitchcock version) Little Women (1994) The Age of Innocence Tess (the Polanski film) I Capture the Castle Bridget Jones' Diary
