Apparently they've felt a deep, emotional, life long connection to the man and his music. I realize that but I guess personally, that doesn't translate to crying myself to sleep. I wasn't trying to make a post to be rude, I really just didn't understand why people felt so strongly about someone they've never met. |

With MJ he was everything for me. I followed that man ever since I was a baby. Whenever I was feeling down, I put on MJ. When I wanted to dance and smile, I
put on MJ. I always had him playing. In school, people didn't even have to ask me what I was playing on my ipod. They knew it was either Michael or Janet.
He touched my life in so many ways. Most of my memories surround MJ. I feel like he was part of my family. Weird to explain, but that's how I feel.
With other celebrities my interest would come and go. But with MJ (and Janet) my interest and love for them stayed. I always said I would be a wreck when this day came. I'm just shocked and so sad. |

The fact that people feel that strongly about him and what he did is just a testament to the impact that he had.

You're not getting it. Some people do feel they knew him, by his music. He touched them, deep down. That's why their mourning.

I didn't cry over the news of Michael's death, but I was shocked and completely in denial about it at first. I mean, he's Michael Jackson...I
don't think I ever thought about him dying. He was an icon!

He was part of my life from the time I was 7 years old. If you weren't alive in the 80's: Peace out. You don't get it.

People are who they are when they write their own songs. That's why people connect with him so much. I was near in tears when they were bringing his body
out. It was just so surreal and I felt like I was dreaming. I never thought it would be him.

So you'd be sadder over the end of someone's career than over their death? As long as the end of their career came first, of course. For the reasons people are stating, that seems to me that that would be the case. I'm not saying it's not sad when people die because of course it is. But it's not their life that changed you, it's their career. You didn't even KNOW them in their everyday life. |

Many people in here have explained it to you very well, and apparently it's something that you still don't get because it's not how you would react, and that's fine. Maybe you should just leave it at that. You're just not capable of understanding it, so stop trying. Clearly you missed the part where I said I never would understand it. |

I like a lot of his music but the guy was obviously so screwed up (even back in the 80's, he was just more private about it) that I don't see how
anyone could have a real connection with him. His music is the one good piece of a shattered and abnormal person.
