...............I actually agree with Blazer.
Do you think that MJ's death is bigger than Elvis?

I also think you have to add John Lennon to the list of shocking deaths in the history of music.

chocolate covered raisins wrote:I heard that his kids were there at the home when Michael was found with no pulse. But just to add to this discussion, I think that it cannot be compared because it is two different eras. But, they are on par with each other. Michael is the Elvis of our generation. When Elvis died, he was pretty much a recluse and suffering from drug addiction and fell out of his prime. Kind of the same with Michael. Even though Michael was doing one last comeback. But, his death will surely have an immense impact as he will be implanted as a musical legend for the ages just like Elvis. However, as already posted, Michael is definetly a bigger international star. This definetly has a bigger worldwide impact also due to globalization and the phenomena of the world being a global 'village'. Not one corner in the globe that does not know who MJ is. This is definetly up there. I am still shocked and saddened how he was taken away so suddenly. |

I remember where I was and what I was doing when I found out Elvis died, when John Lennon was killed and when Princess Diana died. These are all iconic moments
that make people remember their association to the celebrity and how they touched our lives. You can't relate to a famous person's death unless
they've meant something to you so I don't think you can really do comparisons.

My dad said it best... "He's your generation's Elvis" you'll remember this like how we remember where we were when Elvis and John Lennon
died.

People still visit Graceland because of Elvis, people still buy his merchandise.. people still miss Elvis! I do. I wasn't even born when he died but I grew
up learning about him and listening to his music and loved him. I do believe Elvis was JUST as big as Michael Jackson, like someone said Jackson is our
generation of Elvis.. because alot of people DID mourn Elvis's passing, and some people claim they see him to this day!
If Elvis wasn't huge, why would millions of people go to Graceland, just asking??? |

Am I really seeing people saying in this thread that Elvis didn't have longevity and wasn't very big internationally? SERIOUSLY?

No. Elvis to this day still has an impact on different generations. I'm 22 and I still listen to his music and love it. My sister is 27, my other sister is
11, my mom is 50, and my grandmother was 74 and we ALL listen to Elvis as did my grandmother when she was alive. She visited Graceland and took pictures for me
when I was 6.
MJ's going to have that sort of impact as well. He already does. The music is going to be passed down to generations, just as elvis. It's not fair to say either one was more popular than the other, when they both made an enormous impact on the music industry, had an impact on singers today, and on fans still to this day. They were both kings of music. |

There's no doubt that Elvis was "big" internationally. But compared to Michael Jackson he was "nothing" outside the US and UK. At the
end of the day the comparison is useless, and we won't know if MJ will have the same lasting impact as Elvis until 30 years from now.

In my opinion no one can touch Michael Jackson. No One.
