I hate to be snarky at a time like this, but I wonder if Priscilla is upset.

It's clearly bigger - Elvis was not nearly as big an internation star as Michael Jackson. Anyone who's ever watched concert footage of his shows in
Asia and Eastern Europe knows that as adored as he was here in his prime, he was even bigger overseas.

I'll agree. While Elvis was an international star, I don't think it was at the level of Michael either.

RandomnessRocks22 wrote:Different time; Elvis was and still is big...But to be fair there was no internet, mtv, email, text, cable ,twitter, itunes, youtube during Elvis day or during his time, and at the time of his death. His death was big, but Micheal would be biggrt because of more power of communication we have to transmit across the continent. Then Michael spent a lot of time touring more countries than I believe Elvis has. Elvis is still pretty big today Elvis relied on his concerts, record sales an appearances on variety shows to branch out to fans. So to be honest that is not a fair question anyone should try to guess during this day and time. Elvis death was pretty big and shocking in his time and people responded the same way back then according to my mother as they are with Michael. Only difference is the different outlets Mike and Elvis had. Both crossed over with fans with their music. |

Of course WE think MJ is bigger. He is from our generation so he seems bigger. Elvis' stats of measurable popularity (sales, hit songs, etc) pretty much
match MJ's and I am sure people who were in the Elvis generation would say he was bigger. Or just as big.
It is not a competition though-they were both wildly popular men that were huge stars around the world and influenced entire genres of music and artists. And both will or have been missed. |

I would say he's the Elvis of my generation. So you can't really compare completely. Different era's... different time. Both are a big deal and a
great loss to a lot of people.

I don't know, probably about the same. I know for my dad, Elvis' death was HUGE, much moreso than MJ's. It's a generational thing.

I think it's the same but just for different generations. Elvis died 32 years ago but he is just as popular now then he was in his prime, even more so.
Elvis's death affected so many people. You will see the same thing for Michael Jackson. You think Michael was a legend while he was alive? watch it now, he
is going to be a Super Legend!!

Michael is bigger than Elvis ever was, and he had longevity.

I don't know, probably the same. I wasn't alive when Elvis died and am not a fan but seeing footage of him and his fanbase all over the place and the
reactions to his death and how people still go on, I'd say they're probably the same. For me personally, obviously as someone who grew up in the MJ era
and as a huge fan, yeah it's much bigger but I think they were probably on the same level in terms of how they affected their generations.
