I don't know about Britney getting as much coverage as Michael, but I can see Madonna getting it.

Definately Britney they would. Did you forget all the coverage she got when she was just sick?

I can't even fathom the chaos that would happen if Britney Spears suddenly died. I think it would create more of a stir than Michael or Madonna.

My childhood was TLC, BSB, 'N Sync, Britney, Christina etc. It's sad he died, but I don't really have a connection with him like people in their 30s do. If it were, heaven forbid, someone I idolized so much I would be a wreck, totally. But yeah...I'm sad he's gone, but I guess I'm not feeling it...you know? |

I made this comment on Twitter. Younger people just don't get this. I'm 28 years old so my youngest memory is watching MJ as young as like 5 years old. I feel like I grew up with him. And I think it'd be huge news if Britney died but in a different way. She hasn't been around long enough to have inspired the artists like MJ has. Female pop artists have Madonna to look to and Janet for what they do now. Britney is so young she's inspired like...Miley Cyrus or something. It's totally not the same. It might feel the same to you younger people because you grew up with her but it's not the same at all. |

What about Janet? I think Janet would create just as much chaos. She definitely became more than just Michael Jackson's little sister. She became a
superstar & icon in her own right.
She's had a very long career.

foto87 wrote: No. I'm not just talking about it not being the same for me, I'm just saying Britney hasn't had the impact on music yet that Madonna or Michael have. It's not just about the older generation not being affected by her. It's the same with Justin. He's a huge huge musician and to his credit a lot of artists credit him with their sounds and stuff (like Chris Brown) but his impact on music is just a minor footnote like Britney's. Part of it just has to do with the passage of time. 30 years from now it will be different. |

You know, it's really sad that it takes the man to die for people to talk nice about him. When he was still alive people would dog him like crazy. The
entire WORLD is talking about this man right now. It's still hard to believe that the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson is dead.

I think if Britney died this minute (God forbid), she'd get this kind of coverage since she's still got all the scandal and craziness in recent memory.
She is a world wide figure. She would get major coverage.
However it wouldn't be THIS type of coverage. It wouldn't be a bunch of people talking about her influence on a generation, etc. Britney has had her moments but you don't hear artists coming out and saying they were inspired by Britney Spears to do what they do. You hear that all across the spectrum about Michael. So she'd get coverage. But not MJ type of coverage. Not Diana type of coverage. I agree that the only other person who would probably garner this type of MJ coverage still around today is Madonna. It always amazed me that she, MJ and Prince were all born in the summer of 1958. Prince in June, Madonna and MJ in August. How amazing is that? |

Madonna and Prince would get A LOT of news.
Britney would be big, but not as big as MJ |

Even though I'm only 20, I grew up listening to Michael Jackson. I had NO IDEA that any of the videos or music was mostly from the 80s. I blame VH1. August
was always Michael Jackson month. lol

For some reason, I just did not expect him to die suddenly like this. He just seemed so invincible. I was a huge fan of his as a child and even to my late
teens when he came back out with his album Invincible. I am 25, so I was quite young when I was a fan of his. Even a couple of weeks ago I was watching some
videos and performances of his just because I felt like it.
There is probably not one corner in the world where MJ is not known. His impact is inter-generational. Not only was my mom a fan of his music at one point in her heydey, my little sisters even know some of his classic songs. People in other parts of the world are just waking up now to this news...This will definetly have an impact worldwide in so many ways. My mom said they even did breaking news on so many news segments on the Arabic sattelite dish! Still shocked about this... |

I think they would cover Steven Tyler like that. I'm sure there's others too. Not many though.

On the rock and roll side, yeah. Steven Tyler would be a big one. Huge. But I still don't think it'll be as huge as this. |
