that's one thing i hate about the mormon church, they feed you bullshit in your younger years. i just recently found out what they REALLY believe, none of which I heard a word of in my sunday school lessons.
Is scientology really that diff from other religions?

No. It isn't. I find it HILARIOUS when any religious person attacks someone for their religious believes. Particularly those who believe in Scientology or
Mormonism.

I'm a religious person who could care less about the "other side" so to speak. Since I don't believe in it, nor care about how someone can believe in it, I just leave it alone. The little bit of religious people who do show hypocrisy aren't any different than the non-religious ones who do. The whole Senator thing is just proof that if people subscribe to a way of life, they need to act upon it instead of trying to force it down other people's throats, because then it makes you not only come off as perfect, but eventually makes you look hypocritical. Lastly, I still don't see how it's relevant to your life enough for you to always harp on it. It really doesn't have to bother you as much as you let it bother you. |

Of course religion relates to me when the followers of a lot of religions act the way they do. Not all followers act this way, but a good enough majority do, and a very large majority use religion for grounds of discrimination (gay rights, for example). So, of course it bothers me. Do I lose sleep over it? No. But this is a message board where people discuss things, debate, and even argue. It passes the time. If my topics bother you so much, which apparently they do, maybe you should just put me on ignore. |

But seriously, the Bible was so edited and anyone who believes otherwise is delusional. Especially the King James version. He had it translated to: edit some things out, be remembered forever, and probably to use religion to control the masses ( Marxism) after he edited what he needed.

Hmm? I'm actually really calm.
Also, your topics really have nothing to do with what is relevant to you regarding religion. They always seem like an attempt at a bash fest towards something you can't agree with. |

I have so much to say in this post, but it's way too late and I'm getting frustrated because I can't intelligently convey my thoughts.

But I can't recall a true church that makes you pay money JUST TO WALK IN THE DOOR, pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to "level up" and find
out the "super secret awesome truth of how this religion really works," secretly funds and runs all kinds of cover organizations (most true churchs
are like OH HAI THIS IS A METHODIST THING!!) with the intent of not actually helping anyone, and you know, says that people are clams and shit.
Every other true, long-established church/religion out there (with the exclusion perhaps of the Mormons, and that's a whole other debate I'm not getting into) is pretty open about what they believe in , and where you can find that info for free. None of the rest of them dole it out piecemeal for thousands and thousands of dollars. Hubbard was blatantly trying to make money off people and didn't care one whit about whether those people were happy and fulfilled; most true churches (however misguided you might think they are) aim to help people find faith, guidance, happiness and fulfillment. And many even extend that helping hand to those who aren't members of that church; $cientology would never, ever do that unless it involved getting money out of them.
Televangelists are not churches; they are a single person. They can claim to be of a faith and then horribly misrepresent it for money; that doesn't mean they are representative in any way of your average church member or of the church's beliefs.

I don't care what the definition says, you cannot convince me that Scientology is a religion. Some people in certain religions do some of the things you
mentioned, but that's not typically how the religion, as a whole, works or believes.
I'm not claiming to know everything there is to know about it, but I have been reading a site someone linked a few days ago, to those who grew up in "the church" and even they say it's a cult. Those in Scientology are hiding greedy motives behind a somewhat nicely painted picture. (like when they say they want a better world. OK.. who doesn't?) However, their way of going about all that, I find very strange. (not saying that I agree with everything every religion goes about things) They take all of your money and make you work IN the Scientology buildings, or Orgs, whatever they call them. Kids are not important. They're not even allowed to SEE their parents. They work all hours of the day and night and only get paid like $5 a WEEK. In other religions, I've never heard of families HAVING to give up everything they own, including family members who are not part of Scientology. (except other CULTS, where they live in the middle of nowhere) No religion is perfect and there are going to be people within any given religion who are going to do crazy and stupid things. But this is how Scientology works, period. To take a child away from their parent/s and anyone who isn't a part of Scientology is crazy to me. These people are brainwashed to give everything they have and get nothing in return. Yes, people are going to believe what they WANT to. And I honestly hate to think that Scientology is wrong, since that is judging someone else's beliefs. But, like someone else mentioned, L. Ron Hubbard simply made this all up with the INTENT to make money. He did it as a joke but ran with it when people actually fell for it. I do apologize if I haven't made sense... I haven't been to sleep yet. I should've just stuck with, "You can't convince me that Scientology is a religion." lol. |
