A family member recently re-entered the medical profession (nursing staff) after two years staying home. We've been talking about her job recently of
course, and she told me that probably 4 days of the week, various drug reps cater lunches for the staff so that they can plug their products. My sister said
that the doctors have a quick chat with them, and usually end up prescribing those brands. It isn't this specific office, because when I probed, she said
this was the norm at every medical facility she's worked at, in other states too.
This really surprised me. In my (admittedly uneducated) opinion, this is a huge conflict of interest, and not best for the patients, right? Can anyone shed some light and maybe prove me wrong?
