Ok correct me if I'm wrong here but from what I remember in my law class in college, assault doesn't mean physical contact--it's just a fear/threat
of a physical contact such as hitting, punching etc. So technically what Perez is claiming what happened isn't the same thing as him getting beat up.
Battery is actually when someone physically makes contact with you.
