I think Diana was my first one, and I still don't really know why. I didn't think about her much when she was alive, but for some reason, her death really hit me hard. I was one of like what? A bazillion people who woke up at 3 AM to watch her funeral live on TV. I have the Elton John single on cassette AND CD. I have the BBC videotape, which I recently recorded onto DVD. Hell, I'm sure in a box or something, I STILL have the scrapbook I made.
Who was the first celeb you mourned when they died?

And no, I don't mean you had to cry for days or wear black or any of that bullshit. You just got real sad for a day or two.

First celeb death I *remember* was Marvin Gaye's. I was a little sad about that but I was a kid so it didn't quite affect me much.
First one I was really kinda hurt by was Brandon Lee. But I was a fucking wreck after Jeff Buckley. |

Never with a celebrity.
The first time I ever mourned someone I didn't know was 9/11. I'm sure lots of other people were like me. It hit me so hard that it changed my life. The afternoon that it happened I went straight to church to pray. |

Diana - definitely. I was surprised how much her death affected me.
Jonathan Brandis was one that, to this day, I get really sad just thinking about. |

Well, I was really bummed when (and how) River Phoenix died. I had such a crush on him and he died so tragically. Such a shame.

Aw man, I got REAL sad for Aaliyah, and it was the same as Diana - I really didn't think about her much when she was alive, but her death made me sad.
I also remember getting really sad when I found out Judy Garland was dead. And this was BEFORE the obsession. |

Aaliyah. She was so young!
And Diana, I think knowing that she left behind those young boys is what saddened me the most. |

JFK Jr. I don't know why it hit me so hard, either, but I remember being distraught that they were calling off the search, because I was sure he was still
alive out there.

JFK Jr (wife and her sister too of course). I wasn't crying or anything. But I was totally picturing him having kids and going into politics and all. Oh
well..
