How is what possible? If you're talking about the entire thing, all I can say is, it's a movie and you have to suspend reality. I'm sure you're
not an idiot so you have to be asking about something specific. So... what exactly are you asking?

Sorry, I meant the whole thing really. I know it's a movie and what not but I always over analyze movies and this one bugged me
The scenes with them
at mailbox and them writing to each other and the flag going up and down...I'm just confused

The way I see it is the mailbox was a medium ground, think of it as being "present". Think of Keanu and Sandra in the present exchanging letters like
two weeks apart instead of two years or whatever it was. Think of the house as a timeshare or cottage that only they have access too, so when keanu puts the
mail in the box he raises the flag then Sandra sees it and responds. Does that help?
Keanu's in the past, he saw Sandra in the diner (in the present) and wanted to go meet with her, he died in the car crash, outside the diner that Sandra was in but she didn't know it was him till later so she writes and tells him not to come and they meet back up later. He's already seen what she looks like, I don't think she ever saw his face. |

as far as i was concerned, it was pretty much a rip off of frequency, which was a much better and more interesting movie.
