I haven't been summoned in five years. I'd like to keep it that way. *knock on wood*

About 200 out of state students at my college in MA got jury duty this last semester. According to MA law, even if you are out of state you have to serve. I
know it had something to do with the school, because I got mine at my dorm address. How else would the state get this address for me? Call THAT A coincidence.

Jury Duty was such a horrible experience for me. I will tell whatever lie and no anything necessary to never ever have to be a juror again.

I got a letter in the mail to do jury duty, but I postponed it. So, I will be doing it in August. Of course this is if they call my number. My dad had to do
jury duty in early May, but was never called to appear. Hopefully this will happen to me or maybe I will be moved by then.
NY State has a law or something that everyone has to be called once every three (or was it four) years. |

I'm due Sept 1st, nooot excited. Last time I had it with a guy that used to shop at the store I worked at, went to my church and I'm assuming lived in
my town, so at least I knew someone. :P After some questioning, I got dismissed, woohoo!

AtomicDaisy wrote: What was so bad about it? I'm curious. I've had to serve twice. (Was called two other times, but didn't have to serve). It was kind of inconvenient, but I didn't think it was a horrible experience. It's a very weird feeling knowing that you're sending someone to jail, though. I didn't like that at all. |

I got summoned 2 times last year, but each time when I called the night before they said I wasn't needed. That counts for a year so I am good now until
August, when I'm sure I will be called again.

The first bad thing was that I was on JD for 6 weeks!
The case was pure hell. It was medical malpractice case, mother and daughter vs. 2 doctors, 2 nurses and a hospital. I was totally on the side of the mother and daughter and everyone except for 2 others were on the side of the doctors and hospital. We deliberated for almost 3 days and they were being so ugly to me, yelling at me and saying that I was letting my feelings get to me and that my age was making me lean towards towards the mother and daughter. One man got really angry with me and called me incompetent. The whole thing was just really messy and finally I'd had enough and just changed my vote so I could be done. I was able to speak to the lawyers and let them know they did have someone fighting for them so that was the one thing that made me feel better in the end. |

I LOVE jury duty!! Haha.
I've only had it once but I did everything I could to get on the jury and I got picked. My dreams were crushed though because 5 minutes before opening arguments, the two parties settled the case
I was gonna make out awesome because it was gonna be about a 2 month trial and my work paid for jury duty (my regular salary) so it would have been awesome. Ohwell

Muffin, I tried that! It didn't work.
I tried everything! My uncle even works at the hospital they were fighting and they still kept me. I was even juror number 1. Mine was 8:45 am - 5 pm 5 days a week for 6 weeks. I wanted to die.

If you don't want jury duty there are easy ways to get out of it. You just have to do stuff like muffinlover's dad did. Say you don't believe in
god and can't be sworn in, make it a known point that you have a bias against whatever party is on trial (a doctor, a police officer, a teacher,
hell...even pretend you're racist if you want off that bad). There are ways.

I got jury duty 3 times. The first time I got out of it because I had college. the second time I had to go because it was over christmas vacation but I got to
go home early because they had to many people. The third time I got out of it because I had just went to jury duty in the past year.

I swear if I ever get on a jury dealing with a police officer, I can get out of it.
Ignoring the fact that my best friend is a police officer and has been for over 20 years, I have three cousins who are deputy sheriffs in Mississippi. That alone sends up 2 red flags. |

Saying your racist is always a good way to go if you want out.
